CUTMANG

CUTMANG IS HERE TO GET MY CUT.

UStoleMahCandie responds:

YES.
YES HE IS.

Nice one

I loved Zone of the Enders, and remember it fondly. The part where he killed one enemy and it was game over really made me laugh, since the game was about 5 hours long. Also, the part with the scrolling Wikipedia page on Nikolai Tesla was absolutely hilarious.

Art was better than most "awesome" tributes here on Newgrounds, especially during the parts where Jehuty (I think that's the robot's name) slashed apart that enemy. Animation was a little stiff during dialogue, but smooth during combat and actions.

Sound quality was unfortunately low. Invest in a better microphone, since the current one produces a lot of white noise. Sounds and music were well done and well chosen though. Glad someone else here likes Megadeth! Nice reference with the "Hangar 18" bit too.

Good "Awesome" tributes are few and far between. This is one of the choice few NOT made by Egoraptor that I'd actually recommend! A solid script, funny jokes, good art and decent animation make this a winner. Recommended for the Awesome collection, keep up the good work!

1st Para. If you right click and hit forward, right about the time it says "FUCK EDISON!" and keep hitting forward to the frame right before it cuts to Hideo, it gives an explanation why that wiki article is there in the first place. I'm glad you lol'd!

2nd Para. It was stiff during dialogues almost ENTIRELY because of the deadlines, and if I was going to put a dash of flare to show that I'm capable of doing so, it wouldn't been during the action parts, naturally. But I made a lot of mistakes in the development of ZOA that I learned from after the fact, so hopefully I'll never be that pressed to cut such HUGE corners in future projects.

3rd Para. Yep. Getting a new microphone is definitely on the "to-buy" list after this one. I recorded it all off the headset I use to play first person shooters on, so it's not exactly studio. lol
And Fuck yes, Megadeth. The Hangar 18 reference is what I like to call "foreshadowing"

4th Para. Thanks for the recommendation, thanks for watching, being honest, and thank you for this badass review! VOTING FI-...oh...wait...I can't vote on reviews...I'll just click that little green box instead. :D

A rare find

It's not too often a Madness flash comes out that really does anything new with the formula. Granted, this just takes that formula and mixes it with the slightly aged Portal idea, but the results are solid.

The art was almost all from other sources, as you credited. Despite this, it had a coherent feel to it. The sterile vibe of Portal blends well with the bleak, simplistic Madness look.

As for making a sequel, I say go for it! Might want to improve the portals, as they don't quite mesh with the rest of the look. Also, making it a bit longer would be nice, as right now it's just a taste of this unique cocktail.

Regardless, this was a well put together and distinctive flash. Good work, and looking forward to more from you. Recommended for the Madness collection.

Thanks, thats a realy great review, with some helpfull critisism! thanks!

Put a smile on my face

That was a very entertaining flash! Solid art, and a great concept. Having Santa Claus as Iron Man is a funny idea, and you pulled it off well. Good use of the movie score as well.

It lacked substance, but as you said, it was just a last minute Christmas card. Definitely looking forward to lengthier animations from you in the future, as this one was very good!

Keep it up, and merry Christmas!

zappawadda responds:

Thanks!

It's a start, and a bit of a twist on the formula

First off, I've never seen a Mario flash where he is Megaman. An odd concept, but it actually worked out surprisingly well. Given Mario's many costumes and power up suits, I'm actually surprised noone else has thought to combine the two!

Made me nostalgic for the classic old Megaman games as well. I loved playing them back in the day, and using authentic music from them made the movie work well. It was even laid out like a decent level, which helped it feel fairly authentic to the experience.

My main complaint would be that it is just too small. The stage is about 80% empty, just a white void. Make the backgrounds and sprites bigger and fill up the screen. Everything is small and hard to see, and making things bigger in flash is simple as could be.

Hopefully for the next flash you do you'll have backgrounds that fill up the screen better, and action that doesn't require eye strain to watch. A very solid first flash though.
PS: Was I in the special thanks part of the credits? Very kind of you, and good luck on your future submissions!

AAPNL responds:

well i just got the crazy idea for that concept, i mean the power suits of smb 3 just fitted in perfect with the megaman weapons. next time i will make it bigger and maybe even redo this one with better skills. thanks for your review it is really helpfull.

P.S. you are in the credits for giving me advice you know;) it should be fair that you are in my credits.

Great title

But it seems like more could have been done. Yes, they are hippie zombies, something hilarious in and of itself, but they could do a bit more in the flash. If, possibly, the flash followed their hippie zombie exploits, it could be very entertaining. This, however, just seems like the beginning of a greater flash. Decent work, if brief.

Nice

The visual style in this flash is solid, if sometimes a bit stiff. Overall it looks good though. The brief gunfight looked the best, especially the 3-D bending bullet like in Wanted. The humor, on the other hand, was a bit lacking. The whole part with Santa at the end seemed kind of like a poor attempt at the "Awesome" style of humor. The rest of the toon, however, was very good.

Fine work, keep it up.

No real animation, and a poor message

In my experience, every Juggalo I've met has been a total douche, going to the level of personally attacking me out of the blue. Then they pull the "tough guy" bullshit that makes them look like morons. Then again, this is only for all the ones I've met or heard of, which is an unfortunate many.

As for the flash itself, it was just text fading in and out. Nothing interesting to look at. Meanwhile, some guy talked. Just boring and uninspired, and inaccurate to boot.

Good stuff

In all honesty, it may have just been better to skip the scrolling pictures intro. They set me up for something like a slideshow, but I stuck through them to watch the animation. I know that not everyone will do that, and may vote low just because they see the slideshow in the beginning.

However, the animation itself is solid. Very stylish, as it was almost all purely silhouettes. Some of your shots looked a bit more like World War 1 though; namely the people running through the no-man's lands only to be brutally cut down. Some further innacuracies (mortars don't give off a flash from the barrel) but those are purely nitpicking, and do little to affect the overall quality of the flash.

The music was a bit of an anachronism, but the mood it set went well with the animation itself. Good work, looking forward to more.

Peacedood responds:

Thanks for the criticism. I was thinking about taking the pictures out, and now that I've seen it's score, I feel like I should have. I might remove them and then resubmit it, and see what that does for the overall score.

Also, I was aware of the mortar flash situation after watching a few videos on youtube. They also don't really jump back as much, but I took some artistic license, because smoke with no flash didn't really do it for me :P

Beautiful

This animation was almost trancelike - the music was hypnotic, and the visuals were so incredibly smooth. They reflected the feeling of looking up at the changing sky rather well, especially in the night sequence with the stars blinking in time to the music.

The art was great - excellent shading and a good use of effects. The pulsing stars and symbols on the character's helmet were well synced to the music and looked solid.

I rarely give out tens, but your animation has really gotten to me. Your work never disappoints.

I'm Camtoons. I make cartoons. That's not confusing or anything.
